Post: One-Year Appointment as Professor of Practice in Writing for Games

The Program in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY invites applications for a faculty position in Writing for Games. The Program seeks candidates who are professional game writers with industry experience that have an infectious passion for advancing the craft and medium of games through teaching, research, and experimentation.
The successful candidate will join a diverse interdisciplinary faculty dedicated to not only making games better, but making better games: meaningful, ground-breaking games in all fields of endeavor from commercial entertainment to experimental and applied games and simulations with serious intent. A candidate must show evidence of successful teaching and mentorship at the collegiate level and an active creative, research, or professional practice in games and writing. Experience in game design and production is desirable.
Courses that the successful candidate may teach include Character and Story for Games, Writing for Games I and II, Introduction to Game Design, and History and Culture of Games. Program faculty collaborate in the Emergent Reality Lab (ERL) –a cutting-edge visually and aurally immersive platform for research in virtual and mixed reality that supports new research in education, simulation sciences, games culture, and the arts.

Qualifications:
- Evidence of successful teaching experience or mentorship at the collegiate level
- industry credentials in writing for games
- professional engagement with the video game industry, including mainstream, indie, and serious games
- evidence of capacity to develop industry partnerships or a research agenda in games
