The Program in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY invites applications for a faculty position in Writing for Games. Appointment will be as a Professor-of-Practice, a non-tenured position, for a one year, fixed-term appointment

The Program seeks candidates who are professional game writers with industry experience who have an infectious passion for advancing the craft and medium of games through teaching, research, and experimentation.
To be appointed as a Professor of Practice, candidates must have substantial professional experience of at least 10-15 years, along with a national or international reputation for excellence in their field of expertise. Candidates must also show evidence of experience of successful teaching experience or mentorship at the collegiate level. Experience must include an active creative, research, or professional practice in games and writing; industry credentials in writing for games; professional engagement with the video game industry, including mainstream, indie, and serious games; and evidence of capacity to develop industry partnerships or a research agenda in games. Experience in game design and production is desirable.
The successful candidate will join a diverse interdisciplinary faculty dedicated to not only making games better, but to making better games: meaningful, groundbreaking games in all fields of endeavor from commercial entertainment to experimental and applied games and simulations with serious intent. Courses that the successful candidate may teach include Character and Story for Games, Writing for Games I and II, Introduction to Game Design, and History and Culture of Games. Program faculty collaborate in the Emergent Reality Lab (ERL) –a cutting-edge visually and aurally immersive platform for research in virtual and mixed reality that supports new research in education, simulation sciences, games culture, and the arts.
