As part of the Hiring Investment Program in Digital Media Production and
Game Development, the University of California at Davis invites
applications for an open rank professorship in game technology with a
start date of Fall 2017. This appointment will be made either 100% in
the Department of Computer Science or as a 75-25% split between the
Department of Computer Science and the Program for Cinema and Digital
Media, depending on the candidate’s interest and background.

The appointee will join a rapidly growing interdisciplinary team of faculty
engaged in collaborative research, design, and development of digital
games and interactive media at UC Davis. We are seeking candidates
working on the fundamental technologies that underlie modern digital
games. Areas of specialization should include one or more of the
following: game development, computer graphics and animation for games,
artificial intelligence for games, game engine design, developer tools,
player modeling, game character technologies ranging from agent
architectures to natural language processing to affect models, or other
related research areas. The campus is especially interested in
candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the
academic community through their research, teaching, and service. This
recruitment is open rank and the resulting hire could be at the
assistant, associate or full level.. We strongly welcome junior applicants.

Applicants should have received (or be about to receive) a doctoral
degree in Computer Science or a related field. Candidates must have
demonstrated excellence in research and a commitment to quality
teaching. Industry experience in game development is desirable.
Successful applicants will be expected to establish a top-quality
research program and to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses.
In addition, they will be expected to actively participate in the
interdisciplinary game research cluster and develop curriculum for a
new, cross-departmental degree in game design and development.
Candidates at the Associate or Full rank should have a strong record of
publications and research funding, proven leadership skills in
collaborative research efforts, and an excellent teaching record at the
undergraduate and graduate level. The department is particularly
interested in candidates who have experience working with students from
diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to
higher education for disadvantaged students.
