Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts: Assistant Professor of Interactive Media/UI/UX

The Department of Interactive Media in the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts at Bradley University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in Interactive Media with skills in areas of User Experience Design and/or User Interface Development to join its creative and nationally ranked department beginning August 2017.

Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate production and theory classes in interactive media with an emphasis on user experience design and user interface, beginning and advanced interaction design, and implementation for web and mobile platforms. Duties will include assisting in collaborative projects and student practicum courses, assisting in recruiting, mentoring, advising majors and minors, and advancing the department’s mission, goals, and activities.

Qualifications:

Required: The successful candidate will be experienced in applying methodologies of user experience design and research to website, mobile, and product development. This includes experience in creating user flow diagrams, paper prototypes, wireframes, mockups, etc. Candidates should be able to teach data-driven design techniques, information structures & design, and end-user functionality & research.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • An appropriate terminal degree is required for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor. ABDs and applicants demonstrating progress toward a terminal degree will be considered, but are only eligible for tenure-track and assistant professor status upon timely completion of the terminal degree.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience deploying projects to mobile devices.
  • Experience soliciting user feedback on projects through screenings or formal user tests.
  • Evidence of successful related production experience in creative works and/or industry.

Preferred: In addition to the above required qualifications, the ideal candidate would possess one or more of the following preferred qualifications:

  • University or college-level teaching experience
  • Five or more years industry experience
  • Ability to teach visual communication and graphic design topics
  • Experience with CSS & JavaScript
  • Experience working with at least one client-side framework that integrates HTML, CSS and Javascript (Angular, Bootstrap, React, Meteor, etc.)
  • Experience with Responsive Web Design and device-agnostic design principles and practices
  • An ability to teach software project management best practices

Department and University

The Department of Interactive Media students can major in Animation, Game Design, User Experience Design, or Interactive Media. The Department has an enrollment of approximately 150 majors and 50 minors (and growing). The Department of Interactive Media was created over ten years ago and is currently one of the fastest growing academic units at Bradley University. The Game Design major has garnered national attention and acclaim. In April 2016, the Princeton Review ranked the major as 1st in the Midwest and 15th in the country. The Animation major is ranked as one of the best in the Midwest, and the Department is a locus of award-winning innovative interactive design and production with an expanding national reputation.

The Department of Interactive Media is part of the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts that consists of the Departments of Art, Communication, Interactive Media, Music, Theatre Arts, an interdisciplinary Global Scholars Program, and its nationally renowned Hollywood Semester.
