WPI Graduate Program in Interactive Media and Games

The program has rolling admissions. Please feel free to share this information:

Subject: WPI IMGD Masters Program

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), due to its rolling admissions policy, continually reviews applications for the Interactive Media & Game Development (IMGD) graduate program throughout the year.

Launched in 2011, the IMGD graduate program has consistently been a top ranked graduate program that supports students in a variety of creative and exploratory projects, such as:

  • Building games and game engines
  • Making interactive media art
  • Using VR and AR for medical purposes in collaboration with the medical school
  • Creating learning games to teach computational thinking
  • And whatever else our students imagine

Our labs are fully equipped with the hardware and software that students need to succeed, from Microsoft HoloLens and Sony’s Vive to all industry standard software packages, such as Maya, Zbrush, and Unity. In addition, we work in three-dimensional space with 3D scanners, printers, and traditional arts. And there are plenty of collaborations possible with Learning Sciences and Robotics.

For those interested, graduate students can complete a portion of their project work at our Japan Project Center in Kansai region, Japan, at one of our two partner institutions: Ritsumeikan University and Osaka University.

The IMGD M.S. degree has both a thesis and a project option, and a choice of three focus areas: technical, serious games and management. The WPI faculty includes teachers and scholars in all aspects of interactive media and games, as well as three Professors of Practice with extensive work experience in the game industry.

Students have come from a variety of backgrounds, including English, CS, Art, Game Design, Psychology, and Business. Not only is our program multidisciplinary, it is also multinational, hosting US students and international students (including Fulbright students) who work together in collaborative teams. Because of our close faculty engagement, all have thrived in the collaborative environment between students and faculty at WPI.

Faculty represent a diversity of experience, from the game and animation industries to various departments in the academy. Interested students will find more information here:
