Job: Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) or Assistant Lecturer in Game Development

Armstrong Assistant Professor or Lecturer in Game Development, College of Creative Arts

MIAMI UNIVERSITY (OHIO) – College of Creative Arts (CCA) seeks candidates for the Armstrong Assistant Professorship in Game Development. This is a full-time tenure-track position and is open at the Assistant Professor rank. Candidates without a terminal degree, but with significant experience and a Master’s degree, will be considered for a non-tenure track Teaching Professor position instead. This is an endowed Professorship that is high profile and is associated with additional resources.

Duties:

  • teach courses to include (but not limited to) game programming, human-computer interaction, game technology, the business of games, and game design,
  • develop curricula,
  • provide service to the University.

Tenure track Assistant Professors are also expected to maintain an active research and/or creative program.

IMS faculty are actively involved in advising students; facilitating graduate/undergraduate interdisciplinary research projects; leading client-based projects; help lead co-curricular activities, student organizations, etc.

Qualifications:

Required: For the tenure-track assistant professorship, the following is required:

  • M.F.A. or Ph.D. in related discipline by date of appointment,
  • teaching, or creative achievement, or industry experience in the area of game development.

Candidates wishing to be considered for the Teaching Professor position should have a minimum of five years of full-time experience in the game industry and a Master’s degree. Consideration may be given to candidates with:

  • an accomplished research and teaching record, including a record significant peer-evaluated scholarship and successful grant writing,
  • have demonstrable industry experience in the area of game development, and
  • experience and/or keen interest in teaching.

The College of Creative Arts, one of the University’s five academic divisions, includes five departments: Architecture/Interior Design, Art, Music, and Theater. IMS is an innovative degree-granting program driven by emerging interactive technologies and a cohort of collaborative faculty who build “horizontal” curriculum and research across campus.
