The Central and Eastern European Game Studies conference (CEEGS) Steering Committee is seeking hosting organizations for the 2019 and 2020 annual conferences.
Over the last five years, CEEGS has become one of the premier European game studies conferences, organized each year by game scholars from the region of Central and Eastern Europe. As a platform for game scholars from and beyond the region, its goal is to facilitate the emergence of a unique perspective within the international arena of game studies. So far, CEEGS conferences have taken place in Brno and Prague, Czech Republic; Krakow and Lublin, Poland; and Trnava, Slovakia – and we are always looking forward to expanding to new countries and cities. Our keynote speakers have included Espen Aarseth, Kristine Jørgensen, Frans Mäyrä, Melanie Swalwell, Jesper Juul and Clara Fernández-Vara and we have hosted participants from places as diverse as Scandinavia, Canada and the United States, China and Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia.

The hosting location should have good travel connections and be able to host 100 participants. The local organizer is responsible for the facilities and the execution of the conference, the conference website, and conference budget. The organizer also has to secure sufficient funding (the Steering Committee can offer their assistance in seeking grants). Conference dates will be determined in cooperation between the Steering Committee and the local organizers.

Requirements for proposals to host CEEGS conference

The proposal must include:
- Range of possible dates when the conference can be hosted (this should be in the Fall of the respective year)
- Short description of the organizing institution/s and their achievements in research and education, especially on games.
- Report of the organizing institution’s past record of hosting conferences
- Description of the facilities in which the conference will be hosted (preferably with photographs).
- Draft projected budget, including projected registration fees. If external funding will be sought, prepare a basic version of the budget excluding grants, and additional versions of budget which take into account additional funding. Please note that CEEGS is not a legal entity, and therefore it cannot provide or apply for funding. Funding for the conference must come from registration fees, institutional funding of the organizer, and/or external grants. The organizing institution is expected to be the primary applicant for grants, but other associated institutions may assist or co-apply. Sponsorship by commercial companies is allowed under conditions detailed in the Statute.
The proposal may further include other additional material relevant to the conference, including:
- Transportation, accommodation and dining options
- Social events
- Keynote suggestions
The proposal – or a letter of commitment referring to such a proposal – must be signed by the representative of the legal entity that will act as the organizer. In case of most universities, this is the dean of the faculty.
