Job: Tenure-Track Position in Games/Interactive Media at Marist College (USA)

Faculty Position Opening in the School of Communication and the Arts

The Media Arts Department in the School of Communications and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment to teach Interactive Media & Game Design courses in the newly established B.A. in Media Studies and Production, commencing Fall 2013. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of interactive media, its technologies, theories, and production processes, and possess knowledge of traditional and experimental approaches related to interactive media.

Appointment Rank and Qualifications: Assistant Professor. Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D., M.F.A. or other terminal degree in New Media, Human-Computer Interaction, Game Studies, Media Studies, or in a relevant field at the time of the appointment, and possess a record of teaching, scholarship or creative work, and service commensurate with the appointment. Candidates with significant work toward degree completion may be considered.

Candidates must have proficiency in both PC and MAC-based computer environments, as well as different industry-standard design applications and game authoring tools (such as Flash/Actionscript, HTML5, CSS, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, InDesign, Illustrator, GameMaker, Scratch, or Unity 3D). Industry or practical experience in designing games, interactive applications, social media, or mobile media is a plus, as is experience with UI/UX, interaction design, experience design, and information architecture. The successful candidate will also show commitment to curriculum development, an interest in developing courses in interactive media for traditional and online instruction, and in converting existing courses where applicable for online instruction.

Duties.
• Teach seven classes a year in the Interactive Media & Game Design concentration, including a foundations course in digital tools. Other Interactive Media/Game Studies courses could include: Media Literacy, Interactive Media, Game Production, Introduction to Media Studies, Media Aesthetics, and Media Theory.

• Conduct research and/or creative work in the candidate’s area of expertise leading to tenure and promotion.

• Engage in academic advising, and service to the institution and to the candidate’s academic discipline.
