The Division of Science, Information Arts and Technologies at the University of Baltimore invites applications for a full-time faculty position to begin August 2013. This person will be hired as either an Assistant/Associate Professor or a senior level Professor of Practice in game design, with contractual, tenure-track, or tenured status, depending on qualifications and experience. For consideration, applicants must have a doctorate in a technical field or an MFA. Also necessary are a strong commitment to teaching and a demonstrated ability to teach a range of courses on game and simulation-related technologies, including 3D animation, at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Candidates will need to demonstrate success in creative professional practices and/or research and publications; expectations vary with potential incoming rank and status. Individuals committed both to the digital arts and to computer science and information technologies, with a background in game and simulation development or interactive arts and media, are preferred. Salary is competitive with industry jobs.

The University of Baltimore, a component of the University System of Maryland, serves a diverse urban community with an emphasis on “knowledge that works.” The Division of Science, Information Arts and Technologies, a unit of the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences, has thirteen full-time faculty and six affiliated faculty and offers three bachelor’s degrees, three post baccalaureate certificates, an M.S. in Interaction Design and Information Architecture, and a D.S. in Interaction and Information Design.

Primary teaching responsibilities will lie in the Simulation and Digital Entertainment B.S. program, but may also include general education and honors courses as well as the SIAT Division’s graduate programs. The SDE program currently enrolls approximately 215 students and is growing rapidly. Many of our alumni work in the 100+ interactive development companies in the Baltimore-Washington area.
