The purpose of the role is to lead the undergraduate programmes in Interactive Media Design and Digital Media Arts. The post holder will have expertise in one more of the following areas: User Experience, games or app design, interactive narratives, digital kinetics, interactive objects or environments and or net art. She or he will make a significant contribution to teaching and research in the School.
The postholder will be Programme Leader for the BA programme and potentially make a contribution into other screen media courses at UG and PG level. The Programme Leader is expected to develop the vision and profile of the programme, as well as take on team leadership and planning activities. Programme Leadership is a role within this Senior Lectureship position.
A strong sense of initiative taking and seeing projects through in collaboration with the teaching team is core to the role. You will maintain a clear sense of the development of the area and ensure that the curriculum and teaching remain up to date.
The postholder will be a key member of the Creative Arts teaching team.
The Programme
The School has been running courses in this area for at least 20 years. The current programme has a number of award titles, further information is available on the public website. The course supports students to think about the use and variety of interactive and digital platforms and content, with a spectrum of approaches from a more design led (interactive media design) to experimental interactive arts-based study (digital media arts). There has been a strong cultural and critical studies base to the programme, integrated and alongside practice. There are approximately 80 – 100 students on the programme.
The current programme team have established strong links with leading regional organisations through research and student projects and it is expected that this activity will continue and grow. The postholder is expected to be a member of the Media Research Group, or another School research group, which brings together media professionals and theorists.

SCHOOL OF CREATIVE ARTS
The School was set up in its present form in Sept 2009 and currently has approximately 2,300 undergraduate, postgraduate and research students. Courses and tutors are organised into 5 academic groups – Design, Visual Arts, Screen, Music and Postgraduate Centre for Creative Arts. There is a broad spread of courses with details available on the University website. The work of the School has developed in ambition, scope and scale since the early 1990s, at which point the School joined the University. The School is based on the College Lane site in 5 buildings clustered on the west of the site and the John Lill music centre nearby. The School has an active and lively environment, based around a café and professionally-curated gallery in the Art and Design Building. The School has approximately 10% international students and has three important overseas partnerships that have been established for some years in Moscow, Kuala Lumpur and on-line and this work is expanding, with more!
