General Statement of Duties:  Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach a wide range of courses in Game Design and Interactive Media.  A successful candidate will be able to teach and develop undergraduate introductory and upper division courses.  In addition a candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the continuing development of a new Game Design major as well as an already established Interactive Media concentration. A combination of industry, art and academic experience is highly desirable.

Supervision Received: Department Chair of Communications/Media

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching workload (four courses per semester), preparation for classroom instruction.

  2. Instructional responsibilities may include (but may not be limited to) courses in 3D modeling, level design, game art, serious games, game design workshops, and interactive design.

  3. Desirable subfields: game production pipeline, mobile games, motion capture, game engines, game programming/scripting, interactive design.

  4. Provide student assistance including academic advising.

  5. Participation in scheduled orientation and registration programs.

  6. Participation in curriculum review and development, program reviews and student outcomes assessment.

  7. Attendance at college functions, including commencement, convocation and faculty, committee and departmental meetings.

  8. Continuing scholarship and professional activities which include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, research demonstrated by published or unpublished work (including artistic or other creative activities), public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the college community.

  9. Opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online and undergraduate and graduate evening courses.

Qualifications:

  1. Requires an MFA, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in a field related to Game Design, at the time of appointment.

  2. Experience in the Game / Interactive Entertainment industry preferred

  3. Ability to integrate appropriate and current technology and software in teaching.

  4. Participation in professional organizations or societies, outreach activities with community businesses, and/or service-learning activities are strongly encouraged.

  5. Commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience commensurate to the level of appointment and evidence of appropriate scholarly/creative activity.

  6. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.

  7. A commitment to research, publication, and/or creative work that will engage undergraduate students.

  8. Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience and the MSCA Bargaining Agreement.
