DiGRA Rising Star Spotlight – Second Round Call (Q1 2026)

Following the strong response to the first round of the “DiGRA Rising Star” Spotlight, we are pleased to invite self-nominations for the second round of the program. The Rising Star initiative celebrates and showcases the work of emerging scholars in our community, providing visibility for their research and contributions to game studies.

What is the Rising Star?

Each quarter, DiGRA will highlight two Rising Stars—a PhD student and an ECR/PP—through a feature in the DiGRA newsletter and on our website. At the end of each year, one scholar will be named Rising Star of the Year. This honour will include recognition at the AGM, a dedicated feature on the DiGRA website, and complimentary registration for the following year’s DiGRA conference.

Who is eligible?

The program is open to:
– PhD students currently enrolled in doctoral programs
– Early career researchers within eight years of completing their PhD
– Applicants must be DiGRA members and may self-nominate.

How to apply

Self-nominations for the second round are accepted via the application form.

Applicants will be asked to provide:

– a short profile (up to 500 words),
– one recent publication, and
– optional supplementary materials such as images or project documentation.

Applications from the previous round that were not selected will be automatically carried forward, unless applicants choose to opt out.

Why participate?

The Rising Star spotlight is a unique opportunity for emerging scholars to share their work with the international DiGRA community, gain visibility, and connect with peers.

We look forward to celebrating the creativity, diversity, and achievements of our ECRs and PhD students!
