The Department (http://www.LN.edu.hk/cultural/) offers a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Cultural Studies with a strong interdisciplinary orientation. It admits postgraduate research students leading to the award of MPhil and PhD degrees. The Department also offers a self-financed taught programme leading to the Master degree of Cultural Studies and will soon launch a new taught programme leading to the Master degree of Performance Studies.

General Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD degree in Cultural Studies or in related fields with at least three to five years’ experience at a tertiary institution, with relevant teaching experience, a good research record and a proven publication record in refereed international journals.  For appointment as Associate Professor, candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience and a good track record in research and scholarly activities. For appointment as Assistant Professor, candidates should have relevant teaching experience and a good research record. The appointee will be required to conduct teaching, research, and take up service duties.

With the new recruitment, the Department aims to expand the key new area of digital cultural studies and to enhance its research and teaching profile accordingly.

The appointee must have a strong background in Cultural Studies and proven teaching and research ability in three or more of the following areas: digital cultural studies, education and cultural studies, cultural economy, politics of knowledge, emotion and affect studies, Inter-Asia cultural studies. Lingnan University is fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research. The appointee should demonstrate commitment to teaching and research excellence, and will be expected to apply for external competitive research grants, publish in reputable international journals in the field and contribute to the department’s post-graduate degree programmes. Candidates are required to provide information on their research records and evidence of quality teaching. Administrative experience will be an advantage.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may normally lead to longer-term appointment with possibility of consideration for substantiation.
