Essential: Skills in experience design, interface design, and developing software for learning. Excellent software engineering, programming and tool development skills in a design research setting. Deep understanding of assessment in formal and informal learning contexts.

Desirable: Postdoc experience preferred. Understanding of game design, evidence-centered design, situated assessment practices, performance assessments, data visualization, and large-scale data sets.
Experienced in iterative software development approaches, and working in interdisciplinary teams. Programming in web authoring environments (Ruby-on-Rails preferred), web databases, and statistics packages (e.g. R). Experience leading software engineering teams that create multi-tiered data rich systems. Experience designing back-end assessments for learning environments in and out of school contexts.
Experience with Facebook and Twitter APIs.

Principal duties:

Principal duties:
This position will advance research for the Educational Research and Integration Area at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery (see by (i) creating innovative interactive environments for learning, (ii) improving our understanding of data gathering and mining techniques for analyzing interactions in those environments, (iii) collaborating with web developers to build tools and interfaces for researchers, learners, parents, administrators, and other stakeholders to analyze learning.

This position will be responsible for identifying research problems, designing methods, and performing and monitoring the research, including writing research grants, writing scientific manuscripts on the work, presenting the scientific work at national and international meetings, developing related software packages, developing the research project and furthering the scientific knowledge in this research area. This position will also coordinate projects with the rest of the lab and external collaborators.

This appointment will require understanding of game-based learning techniques, interest in and capacity to collaborate with researchers across fields and problem areas in the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery.
