Dear colleagues,
we are pleased to invite you to the international conference Digital Games in Japanese Studies – Current Perspectives, which will take place at Trier University on September 25–26, 2026.
The conference explores current perspectives on research into digital games related to Japan and brings together scholars from a range of disciplines. It focuses on digital games as an object of Japanese Studies and examines their cultural, social, and aesthetic dimensions.
The keynote lectures will be delivered by:
Rachael Hutchinson – Intersections and Directions: Digital Games within Japanese Studies
Martin Roth – Unboxing Japanese Videogames
The conference panels will cover topics including:
• Historical and Mythical Japan
• Pokémon
• Game Discourse and Interpretation
• Aesthetics and Representation
• Game Design and Storytelling
• Social Issues in Video Games
Everyone with an interest in the topic is warmly invited to attend.
